Marianela Orozco (Sancti Spíritus, Cuba, 1973) is a multidisciplinary artist who lives and works in Havana. Her practice is centered around anthropological concerns, exploring relations between fragility and power, private and public, nature and civilization. Without detaching herself from the social and political context, she focuses on universal human contents: the passing of time, the uncertainty before the unknown, the circularity, the meaningless of the repetitive actions, the weight of the everyday… Her projects include photography, video, installation, performance and public intervention. Licenciada en Letras (Bachelor of Arts in Literature) from the Universidad Central de Las Villas, Cuba, 1991-96. Orozco has had six solo exhibitions and public art projects: Zoom in, 2014, a two-person exhibition with Ariel Orozco, Galería Servando, Havana; Playtime, 2012, Behind the Wall, Havana Seafront, XI Havana Biennial; Transits, 2010, Salle Zéro, French Alliance, Havana; Domestications, 2009, Simon Bolivar House, a collateral event of the X Havana Biennial; An Earthly Project, 2005, and Shouting Chamber, 2004, both at the Contemporary Art Forum Kitchener + Area Annual General Meeting (CAFKA), Ontario, Canada. Additionally, his works have been featured in group exhibitions in the United States, Germany, France, Italy, Brazil, Spain, Venezuela, Portugal, Scotland, Belgium, Martinique, Mexico, Colombia and Norway.
