Lisbet Goenaga García (Havana, 1973) is a Cuban photographer. She studied at the San Alejandro School of Plastic Arts in Havana, graduating as a Sculptor-Draftsman in 1992. Later, she became the first woman to graduate in the specialty of Photography Direction from the Higher Institute of Art. She worked as a still photographer for the film Juan de los Muertos (2011) and the documentary En el Cuerpo Equivocado (2010). As a director of photography, her credits include the short films Y si Pierdo la Razón (Doriam Alonso, 1997), Showroom (1998), and Alegrías (1999), both by Marilyn Solaya. Additionally, between 2010 and 2020, she served as a photojournalist for the Yucatecan newspaper ¡Por Esto!, a publication that reflects glimpses of Cuban history and culture in its pages.
Lisbet Goenaga's work is a medium that conveys personal and professional life experiences. Her pieces reveal the fusion of artistic values inherent in the cinematic, sculptural, and pictorial worlds. Her works immerse the viewer in a narrative presented from the perspective of a woman working with her most personal medium. The women portrayed in this series are her two daughters. The objects she arranges in her photographs bring us closer to memories, speaking of a narrative offered through simple everyday objects positioned from a completely different perspective. These objects, as presented by the artist, transform us; we assume them and integrate them into our being as we live with them and find it impossible to detach from them. Lisbet Goenaga's photography is a uniquely singular proposal in the contemporary visual landscape.
