Born in Sancti Spiritus, Cuba, in 1977, James Bonachea's work has been characterized by a constant invitation to re-signify both the deeply rooted beliefs in cultural imagery and everyday objects. This practice has led him to intervene in public and private spaces, involving his own body, organic materials, and other elements in seemingly contradictory scenarios and surfaces within the formal solutions of visual and pictorial discourses. From performance to drawing, his curiosity about reinterpreting the distant past has led him to create dialogues between historical vision and the current state of reality, resulting in discursive forms that complement an anachronistic universe of re-significations. Bonachea's work plays with humor and the sacred, creating an experience of irrational wonder for the viewer.
