From Barcelona, Spain, we are thrilled to share news of several publications and books that have featured the remarkable work carried out by the Museum of Contemporary Art of the Americas over the past year. In an article published in issue XXXVIII of ARTEPOLI, edited and printed in Barcelona, the Cuban artist and critic Ángel Alonso, who has long resided in the Autonomous Community of Catalonia, provides a historical overview from the inception of the Kendall Art Center in 2016 to the establishment of the Museum of Contemporary Art of the Americas in November 2022.
Ángel Alonso, delving beyond the museum's extraordinary array of exhibitions and events and the excellence of its collections, paid special attention to the functional structures of the institution, the organization of its programming based on its essentially community-oriented program system. Alonso particularly highlighted the Women in the Arts, Hands on Clay, and Legacy Bronze Art Foundation programs.
Barcelonarte Publishing released a volume by the same author, collecting a selection of articles published in ARTEPOLI over recent years. Two artists from the Museum of Contemporary Art of the Americas' collection, Ivonne Ferrer and Luis Cruz Azaceta, were featured in the index and graced the cover of the edition. For the museum's leadership, it is incredibly inspiring and provides an additional boost toward maintaining the highest standards of excellence to know that experts residing thousands of miles away are keeping an eye on and paying attention to their efforts to connect with the community and act as a local integration factor.
